What to visit
The Palace of Culture (Palatul Culturii) is an early 20th-century Neo-Gothic flamboyant architectural masterpiece and a symbol of Iasi. It is one of the biggest buildings in the entire country, containing an astounding 298 rooms. If you’re curious about what it looks like inside, you can book a tour of one of the four museums inside the building: The Ethnographic Museum, the History Museum, the Art Museum and the Science and Technical Museum.
The Iasi Botanical Garden, presently named after its founder Anastasie Fatu, is situated in the Copou neighbourhood of Iasi, Romania. Founded in 1856 and currently overseen by Alexandru Ioan Cuza University, it stands as the oldest and most extensive botanical garden in Romania.
Entering the University Palace, you are welcomed by “The Hall of the Echoing Footsteps” and will be surrounded by works of art. By painting these murals, Sabin Bălaşa, one of the most well-known Romanian contemporary painters, has transformed a simple hall into an art gallery. The 19 murals reflect the Romanian spirit, youth, history and poetry and have been praised as a real blue beatitude that covers approximately 300 m².
